COPPERAS COVE, TX
Artificial Turf in Copperas Cove: what’s different here.
Copperas Cove is a city of about 36,700 people (2020 census), mostly in Coryell County with parts in Bell and Lampasas counties, on the western side of Fort Hood. It grew from a cattle and railroad town into a military community after Camp Hood opened in 1942, and much of its housing was built for Fort Hood families. Permits inside the city go through the City of Copperas Cove, lots outside it fall under the county, rentals are common, and it is the far western end of our area, so visits are planned around the drive.
Turf, Fences & Courts in Copperas Cove
Rocky ground makes setting fence posts harder in Copperas Cove, and artificial turf is a practical option where thin soil will not hold a lawn.
The ground
Copperas Cove sits about 1,125 feet up in the hilly Limestone Cut Plain, the “Five Hills” area between the Lampasas River and Cowhouse Creek, so soils are often thin and rocky with mesquite and live oak on the lots.
Homes and lots
Established neighborhoods such as Colonial Park, newer builder subdivisions like House Creek North (built mostly 2004–2012 on lots around a fifth of an acre), and acreage subdivisions on the edges of town.
